ARP, Texas (KETK) — Dallas Cowboys linebacker and former Arp Tiger standout DeMarvion Overshown was recognized with a new sign in Arp Monday.
Arp Mayor Terry Lowry, Overshown’s former coach at Arp, joined Overshown’s family and friends for the unveiling of the new sign, which is located on the right side of Highway 64 entering Arp from Tyler.
Overshown, who missed his rookie year with the Cowboys after tearing his ACL, came back this past season and was having a great year until he went down again with a torn ACL in his other knee.
He’s faced plenty of adversity early on in his pro career but still keeps a smile on his face and a positive attitude, taking the time to give back to his community.
In July 2024, Overshown put on a back-to-school giveaway in Arp and in December 2024 he held a bicycle giveaway for kids in Tyler.
Overshown, who’s earned plenty of fans for his play on the field and even more for his actions off of it, had this to say about being recognized with his new sign:
“Just something that you think about when you’re a kid. I’d love to have something in my hometown saying that, you know, I’m from here, I’ve done great things and just to show a little representation of Arp. I know I say it all the time but my community is everything. I truly wouldn’t be where I’m at, truly wouldn’t have near the motivation and inspiration if it wasn’t for where I was brought up. My family and my community is a true testament of that and just by doing this, showing their appreciation to me. So when I, when things like this happen it just makes me want to get back to work tomorrow and show them that I’m forever rocking with y’all and I appreciate the support.”
