OLD FORT, N.C. (WSPA) – An out of control wildfire fire has been reported off of Bat Cave Road in Old Fort.
Reports say that the fire was caused by a tree falling onto a power line. Emergency crews are on scene working to contain the fire.
Officials stated that the fire is currently moving toward Pine Cove Road, and that residents of Bat Cave Road, Pine Cove Road, Julia Drive, and Roy Moore Road should evacuate the area until the fire is under control. Schools in the area are advising parents to be picked up and avoid having their children take the bus.
The fire has reportedly spread over the roadway due to high winds. Residents of Lavender Road and all of Cozy Cove Drive are ordered to evacuate.
An emergency shelter is reportedly opening at First Baptist Church in Old Fort on East Main Street.
The North Carolina Forest Service said the fire is 50 acres in size and 0% contained as of 1:30 p.m. High winds continue to spread the fire, making conditions extremely dangerous.
