MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two people have been arrested in connection to a dog that was found behind a dumpster in Union County last week, according to the Monroe Police Department.
Around 11:45 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, officers responded to an animal service call at the Dollar General at 1629 W. Franklin Street in Monroe. When they arrived, they found a ‘severely neglected dog’ in a crate behind the dumpster of the store.

The dog was a small brown and black shepherd mix with a bright orange collar. Officials say the dog died of its injuries before it could receive medical attention.
On Friday, Jan. 24, Octavion Jamal Harrell, 25, and Da’najah Mary Horne, 26, were arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty and misdemeanor abandonment of animals.


Both Harrell and Horner were booked into the Union County Detention Center but have since been released.
