TYLER, Texas (KETK) – T.J. Austin Elementary School students are taking part in a new program that’s pairing them up with mentors from Tyler High School’s JROTC program.
In order to mark National Mentoring Month, Tyler ISD shared the following photos of 3rd through 5th graders with their JROTC mentors:
“Partnering with Tyler High’s JROTC cadets provides our students not only with role models but also with a sense of purpose and direction that has an immediate and potentially lifelong impact. This is an incredible opportunity for our students to build resilience and learn important values.”
Josh Currie, principal of T.J. Austin Elementary School
Tyler ISD said the program is designed to help their students develop life skills like self-discipline, teamwork and leadership through the activities the mentors help them with.
“This program is about empowering our students,” T.J. Austin Elementary School counselor Ashley Venters said. “They develop confidence and a strong foundation for personal growth that benefits them now and in the future.”
