Tributes have been paid to Erin Quinn, a 23-year-old rugby player from Lerwick, Shetland, who passed away suddenly over the weekend.
Erin, who played for the Shetland Valkyries and worked as a firefighter at Sumburgh Airport, was remembered fondly by her team, Shetland RFC. In a heartfelt statement, they said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our kind, caring, and talented Valkyrie, Erin Quinn.
“Erin joined the club in 2022, having previously played for Howe Harlequins, and quickly became a cherished member of the Valkyries. She had an exceptional understanding of the game and could adapt effortlessly to any position on the pitch. Off the field, she was one of the funniest and most genuine individuals, always energetic and full of mischief.”
Her former team, Howe Harlequins, also paid tribute, saying: “We are all deeply saddened by the devastating news of Erin Quinn’s passing.
“Erin was an outstanding rugby player with a positive attitude and incredible work ethic in both training and games. More importantly, she was a wonderful person—kind, sincere, and known for her brilliantly dry sense of humor.”
Jacqui Murray said: “Our thoughts are also with Erin’s family, friends and Howe of Fife team mates . It’s an impossibly difficult time for every single person who was lucky enough to know Erin.”
