January 23 Police officers responded to a shooting incident in the 3700 block of Dustin Court after receiving a 911 call. Upon arrival, they discovered an 18-year-old male with a gunshot wound. Officers immediately administered life-saving measures until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to AdventHealth Central Texas in critical condition. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 6:31 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Nicola James. The victim’s identity is being withheld until next of kin are notified.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was shot by a bullet discharged while the suspect was handling a firearm in a bedroom of the home. Following a review of the case, the Bell County District Attorney’s Office filed a complaint against 19-year-old Jeremiah Ezekiel Hanley. Justice of the Peace Nicola James arraigned Hanley in the Killeen City Jail, setting his bond at $120,000. Hanley is currently in custody at the Bell County Jail.
A 20-year-old male was also taken into custody and transported to the Killeen City Jail, with charges pending. This incident is believed to be isolated, and authorities have confirmed there is no danger to the public. Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division continue to investigate, and no further details are available at this time.
