TYLER, Texas (KETK) – A Tyler tow truck driver is being called a hero for his quick actions, after dragging a car engulfed in flames away from a gas pump Thursday afternoon.
The driver of the burning vehicle, Michael McComack said, he was pumping gas when his car unexpectedly caught on fire. He jumped out of his car to call 911, when he noticed tow truck driver, Jeff Scott, who happened to be at the right place at the right time.
Scott pulled into the gas station to help, hooking the burning vehicle up to the tow truck and moving it away from the gas pump and people nearby.
“I’m glad it ended the way it did,” McComack said. “It could have been way worse. I mean, I don’t know. I’m glad he came there to help me out, and no one got hurt.”
Though McComack said he can afford a new vehicle, he claims the tow truck driver saved him since he doesn’t know what he could have done if a bigger fire happened.
A man who witnessed this fire said the blaze looked like it was close to 10 feet tall.
“This kid in a tow truck came pulling up, grabbed the car, and took it out from under him,” Delbert Pullen said. “Got it completely away from the pump. So it was just beautiful. He was just a hero.”
McCcomack is still unsure about what caused his vehicle to go up in flames.
