CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Queen City News’ interactive radar is tracking light snow as it moves across the Charlotte area Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday.
We are tracking a very active weather pattern, snow chances are trending more northwest toward the I-85 corridor later today.
We are also monitoring some bitter cold wind chills Wednesday into Thursday morning as well.
Snow will start to fall around 3 to 4 p.m. this afternoon around the Charlotte metro and other spots southeast of I-85.
The snow will start light and possibly become a bit more steadier later this evening.
Snow totals towards Charlotte will be anywhere between a dusting to 1 inch of snowfall, with the Sandhills region possibly receiving up to 2 inches of snowfall.
The snow will move out quickly, with most of the area completely dry around midnight.
Although this will NOT be a major snowstorm, the very cold ground and roads will allow snow to stick quickly. This will lead to hazardous travel this evening, overnight, and into Wednesday morning.
Main roads and secondary roads will be suspectable to slick travel tonight, as frigid temperatures may cause the road salt to be a little less effective.

Another concern for tonight and Wednesday morning will be the bitter cold wind chills. Wind chills in the mountains could fall as low as 20 to 15 degrees below zero, while the rest of the region will experience single-digit wind chills. Be sure to wear multiple layers and cover up all exposed skin.
It will feel like teens and 20s through the day due to breezy conditions on Wednesday afternoon. Although increasing sunshine will allow air temperatures to climb into the lower 30s.
We will slowly thaw things out later this week and into the weekend. Highs will be back in the 40s by Friday, with possibly a few 50s on Saturday and Sunday.
