(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Bitter cold temperatures have settled into the Carolinas this morning with a Cold Weather Advisory locked in for our entire area. Lows have settled into the upper teens around Queen City and into the single digits for our Mountain County.
Winds are making conditions even colder this morning, so be sure to limit time outdoors and cover any exposed skin to prevent hypothermia and frostbite. These can onset in minutes with the conditions we have this morning.
Clouds will build throughout the day on Tuesday as highs struggle to get above freezing. We’ll hit the low 30s in uptown while mountain counties only hit the low 20s. A low-pressure system over the Gulf will pump moisture into the southeast throughout the day with light snow showers possible this afternoon.
We’ll see the potential for a light dusting of snow along I-85 and points south and east of the Queen City. Though we won’t see much close to home, measurable snow is likely for parts of Richmond County and Chesterfield County heading into this evening.
A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect overnight until Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. for Mecklenburg, Gaston, Union, Cabarrus, York, Chester, Lancaster, Chesterfield, Anson, and Richmond counties.
Wednesday will be a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day with the morning hosting the potential for slick travel conditions and wind chills in the single digits to negatives from the Queen City to the mountains. Be sure to exercise caution and give yourself extra time for your morning commute.
Wednesday will see more sunshine as highs make a run for the mid-30s. Look for the cold week to continue into Thursday with upper 30s likely heading into the second half of the work week.
Temperatures will rebound back into the 40s and eventually the 50s as we head into the weekend.
Tonight: Mostly Cloudy & Cold With a Chance of Light Afternoon Snow. High: 33.
Tomorrow: Mostly Cloudy & Cold. Low: 18.
