(WGHP) — North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis said on Wednesday that a man held hostage in Gaza will get released.
Chapel Hill native Keith Siegel and his wife Aviva were taken hostage during the Oct. 7, 2023, attack in Israel. Aviva has since been released.
A ceasefire was announced between Israel and Hamas on Wednesday.
It has taken a year of intensive diplomacy by the United States, Egypt and Qatar to pause the war sparked by Hamas’ attack on Israel and pave the way for the release of dozens of hostages.
But if talks over the second and more difficult phase of the ceasefire deal break down, the war could resume, bringing even more death, destruction and displacement to Gaza and an even longer wait for families of the hostages.
The full statement released by Tillis is provided below:
The media is reporting that NC native Keith Siegel is coming home. So happy for his wife Aviva—a released hostage herself—and his loving family. It is good to see the Biden Administration and Trump Transition working together to get this deal done. God Bless the hostages being released and to all those who never made it back.
