LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A body found Tuesday in a wooded area has been identified as a man who’s been missing since early January, authorities confirmed.
According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Ronald Todd Estiridge was reported missing on Tuesday, Jan. 7, around 9:00 p.m. At that time, he was believed to have walked away from his home, and his family hadn’t “seen nor heard from him since.”
On Tuesday, Jan. 14, just before 5:00 p.m., a neighbor in the area who was on his way home from work noticed a body in an elevated wooded area just off Cannery Road in the Buford Community.
Several agencies responded including crime scene investigators, the coroner, and Spartanburg County Search and Rescue with search K-9s.
Authorities said the body was found a short distance from Estiridge’s home, where he was last seen. At this time, the sheriff’s office said there is no indication of foul play, however, the cause and manner of death are pending autopsy results.
“We are disappointed in the outcome of this search,” Sheriff Barry Faile said in a written statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Estridge’s family and friends. Although this didn’t end like we all hoped it would, at least the family will not have to live with the uncertainty of where Mr. Estridge is. The sheriff’s office appreciates the help we received from all agencies who participated in this days-long search.”
