(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Tuesday morning starts off cold with low 30s and low 20s settled in over the Carolinas. Winds are light around uptown but breezy in our mountains, making for single-digit wind chills towards the higher elevations.
We’ll host an abundant amount of sunshine today as winds continue to flow out of the northwest. Breezy conditions in our mountain counties will make for a single-digit wind chill for some of our mountain counties.
Highs will make a run for the upper 40s this afternoon while mountain counties struggle to get into the upper 20s and low 30s. Western-facing slopes may see a brief snow flurry or two heading into this evening with a light dusting possible for the extremely higher elevations.
Overnight lows will plummet again with even colder conditions heading into Wednesday morning. Expect Wednesday to start off in the mid-20s around the Queen City while mountains sit in the low teens.
Ashe & Watauga Counties will see a Cold Weather Advisory in effect starting at midnight and lasting until 10 AM with wind chills expected to fall as low as negative 8 degrees!
Sunshine return on Wednesday bit highs will be limited to the low 40s through mid-week. We’ll be well below normal from uptown to our mountains before temperatures start to rebound heading into the second half of the work week.
50s return by Friday with clouds building heading into the weekend. Look for Saturday to bring the return of rain to the Carolinas as highs hit the low 50s to start the weekend. Wet weather will taper off on Sunday as we finish off the weekend with low 50s and mostly cloudy skies.
Sunshine and low 40s will return Monday to kick off next week.
Today: Cool & Sunny. High: 49.
