CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Bob Lacey, known to Charlotte listeners as one half of the “Bob & Sheri” morning show, announced his retirement Monday.
Lacey said on air of the syndicated, Charlotte-based show that he is stepping down at the end of January. He noted that he is in good health, and there are no big changes in his life.
“At one point, you have to say to yourself, ‘Is it time for somebody else take over?'” he said.
“Bob & Sheri” have been on flagship station 104.7 FM since 2021, and can be found on 61 radio stations nationwide — from Maine to California. The duo was previously a staple of 107.9 WLNK, where they were based for 29 years.
Lacey told listeners Monday that he’s no longer on top of the current music scene.
“I was listening to some promo on TV the other day, some show business award thing, mentioned Jelly Roll, Bunnie XO, Doja Cat and Zendaya — I have no idea who those people are,” he said. “If you do what we do, and you’re not familiar with Bunny XO, you need to find out about Bunny XO, but I just don’t want to at this point in my life. I wish Bunny XO all the best, but at one point you start to sound a little foolish, and I don’t want to arrive at that point.”
The Bob & Sheri Facebook page offered well-wishes for Lacey. The cover photo is now a collage of images of the retiring co-host.
“We fully support his decision to hang up the microphone and spend more time traveling and relaxing with his family. We hope you join us in congratulating Bob Lacey on an incredible career in radio and television!”
