The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of a man who was shot and killed inside a car early on Sunday morning.
Emmanuel Kwame Gbedee, 57, of Durham, was found dead in the backseat of a car on Holley Grove Road near Godwin Lake Road in the Meadow community. It looked like Gbedee was shot and died.
At 1:06 a.m. on Sunday, a state trooper found an automobile next to a building, a short distance off the road, with its four-way emergency flashers activated. The trooper discovered the dead man inside the car.
Before arriving at the scene, troopers and deputies were advised that a suspicious figure dressed all in black was walking around a shelter at the site. The trooper arrived just before the deputies.
Sheriff’s Major Jeff Caldwell said in a news release on Monday that no suspects had been identified and that the investigation was still ongoing.
