CHARLOTTE (PINPOINT WEATHER) — It is a cold start this morning, with temperatures in the 20s and lower 30s. Use caution Saturday morning, as roads are very slick across the region.
We have icy conditions south of I-85 where we saw more freezing rain Friday night. The roads are more snow covered further north of I-85 towards Statesville.
It is best to stay off the roads if you can Saturday. Secondary routes and untreated roadways will remain icy through much of today. Bridges and overpasses will be the slickest.
Expect a slight breeze through the day, with gradual clearing through the morning. We will have plenty of sunshine by late morning and into the afternoon. Temperatures will respond well by getting into the low to mid 40s, which should help things thaw out a bit through the day.
In the mountains, expect a few more snow showers through the afternoon, which will keep slick conditions around through the day in the high country.
We will see road conditions refreeze tonight, as temperatures fall back into the teens and 20s tonight. Be prepared for black ice on your Sunday morning.
More abundant sunshine on your Sunday, with highs in the 30s and lower 40s.
The pattern will remain cold through next week, with highs in the 40s and overnight lows in the 20s. We will see sunny and dry conditions over the next 7 days, with no signals for more snow anytime soon.
Be safe and remain home on Saturday if you can. Road conditions should be a bit better by Sunday and especially Monday.
