CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A storm bringing snow, ice and freezing rain is set to hit Charlotte on Friday afternoon.
We may be feeling frozen when we step outside, but that doesn’t mean the cold never bothered us here in the Queen City.
Charlotte may not accumulate snow like Buffalo, Kansas City, or even DC, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t had our fair share of the white stuff.
The last time Charlotte saw measurable snow was back in January of 2022.
Before that was December 2018.
That’s when two-point-seven inches was recorded in Charlotte.
As our weather team looks into what’s coming, we dug into the archives to take an even bigger look back into our snowy history.
We learned that the most snow fell in the 1880s, with 88.3 inches.
Jump nearly a hundred years into the future and the lowest amount was in the 1990s, with 24.7 inches

As far as snow falls in one day, well, we have to go back to 1902.
On February 15th Charlotte saw 14 inches of snowfall.
A bit more recently are the next two highest days on that list.
On January 7, 1988, we got 12.1 inch while on February 26th, 2004, we got 11.6 inches.
We have only ever gotten over 10 or more inches of snow in one given day just twice in our recorded history.
