LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two inmates died while in custody this week according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities report on Monday, January 6, an inmate in the Lincoln County Detention Center was found to be suffering from what appeared to be a medical event.
Kristopher Lee Applegate, 26, was transported to CaroMont Gaston where he passed away.
The sheriff’s office said on the next day Tuesday, January 7, detention officers noticed an inmate, Matthew Steven Trammell, 34, suffering from what appeared to be a drug overdose. Life-saving measures were performed on Trammell, however, he passed away, the sheriff’s office said.
The NC SBI was called in to conduct independent investigations, as is standard procedure.
