STANLY COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Stanly County woman is celebrating after winning $1 million from a Powerball drawing on New Year’s Day, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery.
On New Year’s Eve, a 20-year Powerball player bought her lucky $2 Quick Pick ticket from Friendly Mart on NC 24/27 West Bypass in Albemarle. She matched all five white balls in the drawing, winning $1 million. The odds of that are 1 in 11.7 million.
“He didn’t believe me,” the winner’s husband said after telling him the news. She says plans to buy a house and pay off expenses, including her grandson’s car. She also might buy a plant or two to add to her collection.
The odds of winning the full Powerball jackpot is 1 in 292 million.
