(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Good evening and happy Sunday Funday! As we close out the weekend and head into the new week, we are tracking a potent storm system moving across the country that will bring a wintry mess to the mountains. Behind it, we are tracking very cold temperatures for all of next week before another winter storm could impact the region.
As for tonight and your Monday, Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for Ashe, Avery, Watauga, and parts of Caldwell County until 7 PM Monday for snow, sleet, and freezing rain. The sleet and freezing rain will occur this evening as showers move through the region out ahead of the main front that will move through on Monday morning. Up to a half inch of sleet and freezing rain is expected in the mountains. Behind the front snow showers will move back into the mountains with at least a couple of inches expected.
Behind the front, more arctic air will move into the Carolinas and will stick around for the rest of the week. Highs starting on Tuesday will stay in either the upper 30s or low 40s with lows down in the low 20s. At the end of the week, we are tracking the potential for a more widespread winter storm across the Carolinas with sleet and freezing rain being the biggest concern. There is still uncertainty with the forecast, but we will be watching it closely.
In the meantime, be careful on the roadways and get ready for more cold weather! Have a great week!
