(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Good evening and happy Saturday! After ample sunshine across the Carolinas Saturday, mostly clear skies are expected this evening before clouds roll in ahead of our next storm system. While rain is expected here in Charlotte late Sunday and Monday, our mountain counties are currently under Winter Storm Warnings for possible significant icing along with a few inches of snow. Behind this storm system, we have more very chilly temperatures for all of next week.
As for tonight and your Sunday, overnight skies should stay mostly clear and will allow our temperatures to again dip down into the mid-20s before clouds start rolling in during the morning hours. Mostly cloudy skies are expected all day Sunday with highs in the low 40s. In the mountains, sleet and freezing rain are possible starting during the late morning hours and continuing throughout the rest of the day. By the later evening and overnight hours, warm air should move in and change that over to primarily rain.
Moderate to locally heavy rain is expected Monday morning as the front moves through the region. Behind it, cold air will quickly rush in along with snow showers up in the mountains where a few inches of accumulation are possible.
Tuesday through the end of the week arctic air will be entrenched across the eastern third of the country with highs staying in the upper 30s to low 40s. At the end of the week, we are watching another storm system that could bring widespread wintry mix conditions to the Carolinas.
In the meantime, get ready for more cold weather for the Carolinas! Have a great night!
