ASHE COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man dies after crashing car into a utility pole in Ashe County, troopers say.
NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a crash on Baldwin Road at Black Bear Inn Road around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Officials say a 2004 Honda Element traveling southwest on Baldwin Road drove off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole.
Upon arrival, the trooper was informed by a witness that the driver was seen exiting the vehicle and running into a wooded area. The trooper went into the woods and found the driver unconscious and began administering CPR until EMS arrived. The trooper’s AED device was also used to administer care.
The driver, Abraham Grant Jordan, 34, of Fleetwood, was transported by EMS to Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson where he later died.
The initial investigation indicated that excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately two hours.
