STANLY COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Was it you? A lucky player in Stanly County kicked off the New Year with a $1 million Powerball win, NC Education Lottery officials announced.
The winner bought the $2 ticket at the Friendly Mart on N.C. 24/27 West Bypass in Albemarle.
Lottery officials said the winning ticket matched the numbers on all five white balls in the New Year’s Day drawing to win $1 million.
The odds of matching numbers on all five white balls are 1 in 11.6 million, they said.
Two Powerball tickets won a $1 million prize, the largest prize in the Jan. 1 drawing. A player purchased the other $1 million winning ticket in Arizona, lottery officials said.
The winner has 180 days to claim the prize.
