GREENSBORO, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Two Anson County men who pleaded guilty to Hobbs Act robberies and firearms charges have been sentenced, the U.S. Attorney’s Office reported Thursday.
Court documents show Wall, of Wadesboro, was sentenced on Oct. 30, to consecutive terms of 138 months imprisonment and 84 months imprisonment, plus five years supervised release. Dunlap, of Morven, was sentenced today to consecutive terms of 110 months imprisonment and 84 months imprisonment, plus five years supervised release.
In August, 35-year-old Brandon Drelle Wall, and William Chavis Dunlap Jr., 29, pleaded guilty to robbing a sweepstakes business in Winston-Salem in June 2022, and another in Liberty in August 2022. Each defendant also pleaded guilty to brandishing a firearm during and in furtherance of a crime of violence.
Both sentencing hearings were held before United States District Judge William L. Osteen Jr. In addition to prison time, both men were ordered to pay restitution and forfeited their interests in seven firearms plus multiple magazines and rounds of ammunition.
The Hobbs Act prohibits actual or attempted robbery or extortion affecting interstate or foreign commerce “in any way or degree.”
Court officials say the suspects stole a phone, a wallet, $1,400 and two guns from the robbery in Winston-Salem. A total of $8,650 was stolen from the robbery in Liberty.
After Wall was arrested, he allegedly admitted to robbing a gas station in Richmond County, and Dunlap admitted to robbing a discount store in Anson County.
