UNION COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man has been arrested in Mexico four years after missing his court appearance after posting bond for several sexual offenses, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
In October 2020, Baldomero Hernandez-Jimenez was charged with multiple sexual offenses including statutory rape, statutory sexual offense, and indecent liberties with a child. A month later, he posted a $500,000 bond and was released, officials said.
Soon after, a warrant was issued for Hernandez-Jimenez’s arrest because he missed his scheduled court appearance.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office patterned with the Union County District Attorney’s Office, the U.S. Marshals, and the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force in this investigation. This led to a “thorough international manhunt” which led to Hernandez-Jimenez’s arrest in Mexico by a U.S. Marshals task force.
After extradition back to the United States, Hernandez-Jimenez was booked back into the Union County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond. Authorities say a hold was issued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), preventing his release.
“This case underscores our steadfast commitment to justice and accountability. No matter how far an offender runs or how long it takes, we will pursue them relentlessly to ensure they are held accountable for their crimes,” Sheriff Cathey said.
