CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A tragic freak accident on Christmas killed a mother and her 12-year-old daughter in Cabarrus County, NC State Highway Patrol confirmed.
The accident happened just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, along Gold Hill Road. Troopers said one vehicle was traveling southwest on Gold Hill Road, while another was traveling northeast. The first vehicle struck a deer in the road, sending the deer left of center.
Troopers said the deer went through the windshield of the second vehicle, hitting the driver and rear-right passenger, identified as 31-year-old Melissa Mullis and 12-year-old Carson Cummings.
Both the woman and her daughter were pronounced deceased at the scene, troopers said. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
NC State Highway Patrol said no charges will be filed in this deadly crash.
