Monica Marisa Herrera Obituary, Death; – The identity of the woman who lost her life in a multi-vehicle collision on Thursday has been confirmed. She was identified as Monica Marisa Herrera, 23, from Preston, as reported by Webb Funeral Home.
The incident occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 91 at Legacy Drive in Franklin. According to the Idaho State Police, a 2006 Mazda Tribute, operated by a 77-year-old man from Logan, Utah, was traveling northbound on Highway 91 when the driver halted in the roadway and began to reverse towards the intersection with Legacy Drive.
A 2021 Dodge Ram, driven by a 32-year-old man from Franklin, was heading southbound on Highway 91 and was in the process of making a left turn onto Legacy Drive. To avoid a collision with the reversing Mazda, the driver of the 2021 Dodge stopped in the northbound lanes, as reported by the police.
Meanwhile, a 1999 Dodge Ram, operated by a 20-year-old man from Franklin, was also traveling northbound on Highway 91. In an effort to avoid hitting the 2021 Dodge, the 1999 Dodge swerved into the southbound lanes but ultimately collided with the 2021 Dodge.
Monica Herrera was driving a 2018 Jeep Renegade, which was traveling southbound on Highway 91 and positioned in the left turn lane. Following the collision with the 2021 Dodge, the 1999 Dodge continued into the turn lane, resulting in a head-on collision with Herrera’s Jeep, according to the Idaho State Police.
Both Herrera and the drivers of the Mazda and the 2021 Dodge were wearing seatbelts, while the driver of the 1999 Dodge was not, as stated by the ISP. Tragically, Herrera succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
