Trey Jones Obituary, Death; – A man from Scott County, Indiana, who was convicted of striking four members of a Kansas family, resulting in one fatality, is set to receive his sentence on Friday. Michael Hurley, 35, faced allegations of being under the influence of fentanyl during the incident on July 5, 2022, when he collided with the Jones family at the intersection of 2nd and Market streets in downtown Louisville.
In addition to the murder charge, Hurley was indicted on three counts of assault. Trey Jones, 42, from Nickerson, Kansas, sustained critical injuries in the accident and succumbed to his wounds two days later. His wife, Amy, and daughter, Ava, also suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash.
On October 13, Hurley was found guilty on all counts. The jury recommended a cumulative prison sentence of 75 years, which includes 35 years for the murder of Trey Jones and 20 years each for the assaults on Ava and Amy Jones. Furthermore, Hurley was deemed a persistent felony offender, and the sentences will be served consecutively. The final sentencing hearing is scheduled for Friday, December 13, at 10 a.m.
