Carl Daniel Gardner Obituary, Death; – A man who sustained severe injuries in a collision in south Charlotte over the past weekend passed away on Tuesday, according to detectives.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the incident on Providence Road near Cherokee Road at approximately 11:30 a.m. on December 7. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 1990 GMC pickup and a 2003 GMC Yukon Denali involved in the accident. The driver of the pickup, 87-year-old Carl Daniel Gardner, was transported to Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center due to his critical injuries. CMPD reported that Gardner succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
Investigators indicated that the driver of the Yukon was preparing to make a left turn onto Cherokee Road when Gardner, failing to decelerate, collided with the SUV. It was determined that Gardner was not exceeding the speed limit, and there was no indication of impairment contributing to the crash.
