Austin David Obituary, Death; – A man is facing legal charges following the discovery of the body of 22-year-old Austin David along I-40 East near mile marker 218 in Nashville on December 3. David was struck by multiple vehicles and died that evening, while his friend, 23-year-old Logan Garver, has been charged with vehicular homicide in connection with the incident.
According to an arrest affidavit, Garver allegedly confessed to witnesses that he “messed up and killed Austin” after a night spent at a club. He is accused of driving under the influence after leaving a strip club with David, subsequently crashing into a guardrail, which resulted in David being ejected from the vehicle. David was later struck by two additional cars, as detailed in the affidavit.
Numerous witnesses reported to the police that Garver made comments regarding the events that transpired on the interstate on the night of December 3. One woman recounted that Garver admitted to having consumed alcohol prior to the crash and did not realize David was no longer in the vehicle until he noticed a flat tire.
Garver allegedly informed another witness that he discovered a body on the interstate when he returned to search for David. This witness also reported that Garver disclosed he had consumed at least four drinks at a club before dozing off while driving home.
“I was so intoxicated I didn’t remember leaving the club,” Garver is said to have told another witness. He further indicated that he blacked out and regained consciousness after the truck crash, according to the police affidavit.
A man reported to officers that Garver contacted him to inquire whether David might have fallen out of the damaged truck after the collision, stating, “I messed up and killed Austin,” as per the report.
The arrest warrant indicates that video surveillance from Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club captured Austin David and Logan Garver entering the establishment with a bottle of tequila and later exiting in a disoriented state before entering Garver’s truck.
Detectives noted that Garver’s truck exhibited significant damage to the passenger side, suggesting that David was ejected from the vehicle. The damage to the truck corresponded with the impact against the guardrail at the crash site.
