Devin Bond Obituary, Death; – A 31-year-old man has been identified as the pedestrian who lost his life in a suspected hit-and-run incident in Tacoma two weeks ago. Devin Bond succumbed to multiple blunt-force injuries on November 27 near the intersection of South Whitman Street and South 12th Street. The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office classified his death as an accident, as stated in a news release.
Anthony Thomas Albers, aged 34, has been charged in Pierce County Superior Court with DUI vehicular homicide, failure to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in death, and reckless driving. Court records indicate that Albers was ordered to be held in the Pierce County Jail with a bail set at $10,000, but he was released on bond on December 3.
A witness reported to the police that on the night of the alleged hit-and-run, they observed a green pickup truck traveling at a high speed, with indications that the driver was intoxicated, according to charging documents. As the vehicle approached South Whitman Street, the witness saw the pickup strike Bond, causing him to be thrown into the air.
The driver then continued west on South 12th Street. When police later located Albers, he reportedly appeared intoxicated, and an officer detected the smell of alcohol on his breath. Albers allegedly stated that he “didn’t think” he was involved in the accident and mentioned that he had driven past the scene, claiming something had hit his truck.
An online obituary for Bond characterized him as a gentle individual who deeply cared for those around him. It noted that he was not one to dwell on sadness or negativity; if he sensed such an atmosphere, he would quickly make a joke to uplift the spirits of those present.
