Andrew Gaudio Obituary, Death; – A tragic home invasion occurred in an affluent suburb of Philadelphia over the weekend, resulting in a fatality. The incident took place in Lower Merion Township at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, December 8, as reported by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office on Monday.
The assailant shot 25-year-old Andrew Gaudio multiple times, while his mother, 61-year-old Bernadette Gaudio, sustained several gunshot wounds but was found conscious. She was subsequently transported to Lankenau Medical Center, where she underwent emergency surgery and is currently in critical condition. According to CBS News and NBC10 Philadelphia, Andrew was the son of Bernadette.
On Monday, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele identified the suspect as 42-year-old Kelvin Roberts, a native of Philadelphia, and presented a photograph of him during a press conference, as reported by CBS News. Steele indicated that authorities suspect a second individual assisted Roberts, and that both intruders gained entry to the residence through the basement.
In a subsequent press conference later that day, Steele announced an arrest warrant for Roberts in connection with Andrew’s murder, noting that Andrew had been shot in the head.
Roberts faces charges of second-degree murder, robbery, and burglary, as stated in the release. Steele characterized the event as a “terrible homicide,” emphasizing that “multiple shots were fired,” according to CBS News. He also revealed that Bernadette was the one who dialed 911 to notify the authorities, despite her injuries. Steele expressed his belief that Andrew attempted to defend his mother before being fatally shot.
Authorities released a photograph of a white vehicle on Facebook, showing a man believed to be Roberts at the wheel, and are offering a $5,000 cash reward for any information that could lead to his arrest.
The District Attorney’s Office reported that a collaborative investigation by the Montgomery County Detective Bureau and the Lower Merion Township Police Department uncovered dashcam footage from a Lower Merion Police Patrol vehicle, which recorded the officer approaching a white Hyundai.
