Robert “Bob” Warren Bork, a cherished member of the High Bridge, NJ community, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ. He was 79 years old.
Bob was born on December 26, 1944, in Montclair, NJ, and spent his early years in Clifton, East Orange, and Roseland before settling in High Bridge in 1977, where he built a legacy of service, kindness, and dedication.
The beloved son of the late Robert J. and Ruth Jean Snyder Bork, Bob was a devoted husband to Lauren G. Bell Bork. Together, they celebrated 51 years of marriage filled with love and mutual respect.
Bob was a proud graduate of West Essex High School and the Oregon Technical Institute. Following his education, he answered the call of duty and served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970 during the Vietnam War.
His exemplary service earned him the prestigious Bronze Star Medal. He continued his military commitment as a member of the National Guard from 1978 until his retirement in 2004, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant.
His professional life was marked by a steadfast commitment to public service. Early in his career, he honed his skills at Garfield Gunsmithing before dedicating 16 years to the New Jersey State Police’s Marine Law Enforcement Bureau.
He later served with the New Jersey State Park Police for eight years. Even in retirement, Bob remained deeply involved in his community as a crossing guard in High Bridge for the past 19 years, becoming a familiar and friendly face to local families.
Beyond his professional contributions, Bob was a pillar of community involvement. A member of the High Bridge Fire Department for over 44 years, he exemplified selflessness and dedication.
