A fatal crash investigation is underway following a critical accident on U.S. 441/SR 7 near the Wellington/Lake Worth border.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, 28-year-old Nicholas Cohen of Lake Point Court in Lake Worth was struck and killed while riding a Kawasaki dirt bike, reportedly traveling the wrong way.
Cohen was heading westbound across the southbound lanes of State Road 7 when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic. He entered the path of an Alfa Romeo Giulia, which was traveling southbound in the inside lane. The front of the Alfa Romeo collided with the right side of Cohen and his dirt bike.
The impact caused Cohen to be thrown onto the hood, windshield, and roof of the Alfa Romeo before landing on the pavement. The dirt bike slid southwesterly to its final resting position. The driver of the Alfa Romeo managed to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop.
Cohen was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center via a Trauma Hawk helicopter but succumbed to his injuries.
No charges have been filed against the driver of the Alfa Romeo. Authorities noted that it was unexpected for a dirt bike to be crossing a north-south road in such a manner. The investigation remains ongoing.
