The Ohio State Highway Patrol has reported that one individual has lost their life and another has sustained severe injuries as a result of a collision on Interstate 71 in Medina County during the early hours of Thanksgiving Day.
As detailed in a press release, a Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling northbound on I-71 in Westfield Township when it collided with the rear of a Honda Civic at approximately 12:16 a.m. on Thursday. Authorities indicate that the Hyundai subsequently veered off the roadway, struck a median cable barrier, and then entered the southbound lanes, where it collided head-on with a Dodge cargo van.
The driver of the Hyundai, identified as 25-year-old Eliyjsha Richardson from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge was transported to a hospital in Lodi with serious injuries, according to the OSHP. No additional injuries have been reported, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
