A man died in a crash in Bath County on Wednesday afternoon, according to Virginia State Police. The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on Route 39, located just east of Route 643.
The victim, 39-year-old Chase Benten Killingsworth from Craigsville, was driving a 2004 Ford F-250 eastbound when the crash took place. Authorities reported that Killingsworth veered off the right side of the road, and while attempting to correct his course, he lost control, crossing back over the road before colliding with a tree.
State Police confirmed that Killingsworth died at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the crash. Investigators determined that speed was a contributing factor in the accident. The crash is currently under investigation by Virginia State Police.
