ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is collecting cold-weather items for survivors of Tropical Storm Helene, as temperatures are expected to dip into the 30s in the coming weeks. The department is asking for donations such as coats, blankets, gloves or mittens, and hand warmers.
Donations can be dropped off at several locations across the area, including 1298 Patton Avenue in West Asheville, the Presbyterian Church at 2215 Hendersonville Road in Asheville, and Harrah’s Cherokee Center at 87 Haywood Street, where items can be dropped at the front door between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily. Another drop-off location is available at 6 Commerce Way in Arden.
The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging the community to help ensure that those affected by Helene have the necessary supplies to stay warm as the weather gets colder.
The drive comes as local authorities continue to assist those displaced by the storm, which impacted the region last month.
