OKLAHOMA CITY — A juvenile enrolled in Moore Public Schools’ program has been arrested in connection with an alleged Election Day terror plot, authorities confirmed Wednesday. The minor was charged as a co-conspirator alongside 27-year-old Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, who was apprehended in Oklahoma earlier this week.
The Department of Justice announced that Tawhedi, an Afghan national, is facing charges for conspiring to carry out a violent attack on U.S. soil in support of ISIS. Court documents state that the plot targeted “large gatherings of people” on Election Day, with Tawhedi allegedly planning to liquidate assets, send his family back to Afghanistan, and acquire firearms to execute the attack.
The juvenile, whose identity has not been disclosed, is accused of collaborating with Tawhedi in these efforts.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including local, state, and federal authorities, are involved in the ongoing investigation. The FBI apprehended Tawhedi on Monday after he reportedly purchased rifles and ammunition from an undercover officer. He is charged with conspiring and attempting to provide material support to ISIS.
Moore Public Schools released a statement acknowledging the arrest of the virtual student and expressed appreciation for law enforcement’s “swift and efficient action.” The district advised directing any inquiries to law enforcement agencies.
The arrests come amid heightened concerns about securing the November presidential election against potential foreign and domestic threats. The Justice Department has emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the electoral process as voters prepare to head to the polls.
