HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. — Local authorities have restricted travel to the Bat Cave area following a modification to the county’s State of Emergency declaration, officials announced Wednesday. The order prohibits access to several key highways leading to the area, citing safety concerns.
The restricted routes include U.S. Highway 74, U.S. Highway 64, N.C. Highway 9, and Grant Mountain Road, beyond the barricades set up by the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office. The affected area extends in the direction of Gerton, Bat Cave, and Lake Lure.
Certain exceptions to the travel ban have been outlined. Authorized personnel such as law enforcement officers, first responders, emergency medical services, and other public safety officials are permitted access. Additionally, utility workers, residents of the restricted area, and individuals traveling for employment are exempt from the order.
The county did not provide specific reasons for the emergency declaration or the anticipated duration of the travel restrictions. The Sheriff’s Office continues to monitor the situation and enforce the barricades.
Further updates are expected as officials assess conditions in the restricted zones.
