NEWARK, Del. — Authorities are investigating a school bus driver accused of abandoning students at an incorrect bus stop in the Robscott Manor neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, officials said. The incident involved approximately 10 children from kindergarten to fifth grade who attend Newark Charter School.
The Newark Police Department was notified at around 4:14 p.m. on October 8, 2024, after reports were made to both Newark Charter School staff and New Castle County Police. Responders from the school, Newark Police, and New Castle County Police arrived at the bus stop, located just outside the city limits, to find all students in good health. The children were safely reunited with their guardians, authorities said.
The bus, located later with assistance from the Delaware State Police, had no additional students on board. The driver involved in the incident has since been identified and will no longer be driving for the school bus company or Newark Charter School.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to the driver’s actions. No further details have been released about the driver’s identity or any potential charges.
