SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A Syracuse man has been arrested after police say he abandoned a dog inside a trash can on Burnet Avenue on Tuesday.
According to the Syracuse Police Department, Animal Cruelty Officers responded to a complaint around 4:45 p.m. and discovered a poodle mix inside a plastic bag that had been placed in a trash can. The dog was transported to a local veterinary hospital and is expected to fully recover from its injuries.
Following an investigation, police arrested 58-year-old Anthony Munford in connection with the incident. Munford has been charged with one count of abandonment of an animal and four counts of animal cruelty, all misdemeanors.
Police acknowledged the assistance of a concerned citizen who reported the abandoned dog, as well as the efforts of the Animal Cruelty Unit in apprehending the suspect. Munford was issued an appearance ticket and is set to appear in court at a later date.
