FREDERICK, Md. — Two people were injured in a shooting early Saturday morning in downtown Frederick, according to the Frederick Police Department. Officers were patrolling near E Church Street and Market Street at around 1:50 a.m. when they heard gunshots and responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds at the intersection of N Market Street and E Church Street. The victims were transported to local hospitals, where they are currently reported to be in stable condition.
Police have identified the suspect as Darryl Lee Cooke Jr., 29, of Frederick. Cooke was apprehended shortly after the shooting, as officers were in close proximity to the scene. A firearm was recovered during his arrest. He was taken to Frederick Health Hospital for evaluation and has since been released.
Cooke has been charged with two counts of attempted murder. Detectives are continuing their investigation and have asked anyone with information or video surveillance footage from the area to contact them.
