CUMBERLAND, Md. — The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office is collecting donations to assist those impacted by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina. The effort, led by Deputy Chase McKenzie, will run until Friday, Oct. 11, 2024.
Donations can be dropped off at two locations: the Patrol Office at 695 Kelly Road in Cumberland or the Detention Center at 14300 McMullen Highway. Items will be accepted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The sheriff’s office has provided a list of critical items needed for disaster relief, including storage bins, cooking supplies, personal protective equipment (PPE), and cold-weather clothing. Other requested donations include non-perishable food, bottled water, medical supplies, and blankets.
“This is a time when we can come together to support our neighbors in North Carolina,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “We appreciate everyone’s donations and generosity.”
All items collected will be transported to North Carolina by Deputy McKenzie after the collection ends on Oct. 11.
