MINNEAPOLIS — A 10-year-old boy was arrested after driving a stolen vehicle past a playground filled with children in north Minneapolis, authorities said Friday. No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred on September 20 near the Nellie Stone Johnson School.
Minneapolis police said the boy, whose name has not been released due to his age, was taken into custody and booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center on Thursday for probable cause second-degree assault.
According to police, the child has a history of criminal activity, with at least 30 entries in police records dating back to May 2023. He has been arrested twice before for auto theft and is a suspect in more than 12 cases involving auto theft, robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and other offenses.
“No children on the playground were struck by the driver,” police said in a statement.
The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details have been released.
