TOMS RIVER, NJ – Karly Simon-Sapp, a 50-year-old woman from Plumsted Township, has been sentenced to five years in New Jersey State Prison. The sentencing follows her guilty plea to charges of theft stemming from her previous role as a bookkeeper for the New Jersey Apartment Association. Along with her prison sentence, Judge Kenneth T. Palmer ordered Simon-Sapp to pay restitution totaling $357,520.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Economic Crime Squad, along with Plumsted Township Police, revealed that between January 2016 and January 2022, Simon-Sapp forged over 100 checks by signing the names of the Association’s President and Vice-President.
She made the checks payable to herself or cash, depositing the funds—amounting to $357,250—into her personal account for her own use.
Simon-Sapp was arrested at her home on July 10, 2023, by Detectives from the Economic Crime Squad and Plumsted Township Police. She was processed and served with the charges, leading to her appearance in Ocean County Superior Court and her eventual sentencing.
