Stafford, VA – An incident involving a suspected drunk driver was reported in South Stafford, as deputies responded to a call about a driver under the influence on Monday at around 10:11 p.m. The situation unfolded at a Wawa convenience store located at 275 Butler Road. The caller informed authorities of a Chevy Cruze in which the driver was arguing with a passenger over an alcohol bottle, while also reportedly consuming alcohol with a soft drink chaser.
Deputies First Sergeant N. Zotos and Deputy S.A. Fulford were dispatched to handle the situation. Before the deputies could arrive, the driver initially left the scene but soon returned, allowing law enforcement to initiate a traffic stop in the Wawa parking lot.
During the stop, the 26-year-old driver presented clear signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol. A search of the vehicle revealed two nearly empty bottles of Captain Morgan rum, one of which was located beneath the driver’s seat. However, there was no presence of Captain Jack Sparrow in the vehicle.
Charges against the driver include driving under the influence, drinking while driving, refusal to cooperate, and improper license plate display.
