UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) has charged 10 students in connection with threats made to local schools during the current academic year. The students, aged 13 to 16, face criminal charges after an investigation by the department’s Homeland Security Division.
Since the start of the 2024-2025 school year, the department has responded to 47 school-related threats. Four additional juveniles, all under the age of 13, were identified in connection with these threats, though they are not facing charges due to Maryland law.
The PGPD stated that many of the threats are spread through social media platforms. “We take each threat seriously and when possible, we will charge those responsible,” the department said in a statement released this week.
The department emphasized its ongoing efforts to investigate threats against county schools. Authorities also urged parents and guardians to engage in conversations with their children about the consequences of making threats, stressing the importance of school safety for both students and staff.
