QUEENS, N.Y. — A bar in Astoria was the target of a hate crime on Friday afternoon when an unidentified individual vandalized an LGBTQIA+ flag and threatened workers, according to police.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. at a bar located at 45-01 23rd Avenue. The suspect tore down the flag and used a knife to cut it up before making threats toward staff members. The individual reportedly called and messaged the bar’s workers, using anti-gay slurs.
No injuries were reported in connection to the incident. The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Unit is actively investigating.
Police have not yet identified the suspect as the investigation remains ongoing.
