York, PA – The Southern Regional Police Department has issued a warning following several reports of an email scam targeting residents. According to police, the fraudulent emails claim that malware has been installed on the victim’s devices from visiting certain websites.
The scam emails reportedly include personal details such as the recipient’s name, phone number, and address. The sender then demands payment in Bitcoin or another form of electronic currency to prevent the release of sensitive information. Authorities stress that these emails are part of a scam.
Residents who receive such emails are advised to block the sender and delete the email immediately. The department emphasizes that no money should be sent in response to these threats.
Additionally, the police department warns that requests for gift cards and corresponding information are also scams. Residents are urged to ignore these fraudulent solicitations to protect their personal and financial information.
