PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — A tragic turn of events has unfolded following the shooting death of 32-year-old Tequia Nails in her Fairmount Heights home. The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) reports that the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Quindell Mercer, has been found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officers responded to the shooting around 11 p.m. on Tuesday in the 500 block of 62nd Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Nails suffering from gunshot wounds, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe Mercer, who had a previous relationship with Nails, shot her before fleeing the scene. Early Wednesday morning, Mercer was located in Washington, D.C., where he was found with what authorities suspect to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was declared dead at that location.
The investigation continues, and PGPD is urging anyone with information to contact homicide detectives at 301-516-2512. The tragic incident has left the community in shock as they mourn the loss of Nails.
