NEW YORK — Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New York City arrested a thrice-removed Ecuadoran national on Sept. 19, following his conviction for burglary and sexual abuse in Rockland County.
The 30-year-old, whose identity has not been released, was apprehended by ERO officers at the Otisville Federal Correctional Facility under a warrant of removal.
The noncitizen had been convicted by the Rockland County Court on Aug. 7, 2012, of burglary in the third degree and sexual abuse in the second degree, receiving a one-year prison sentence for each charge. He had been previously removed from the United States three times, following multiple illegal reentries.
“This arrest shows ERO New York City is committed to apprehending predators who commit horrific acts of violence against members of our community,” said ERO New York City Field Office Director Kenneth Genalo. The Ecuadoran national is set to remain in custody pending his removal to Ecuador.
The noncitizen was first encountered by U.S. Border Patrol near Naco, Arizona, in 2010, after unlawfully entering the country. He was ordered removed in 2012 by an immigration judge in New York City and deported to Ecuador in January 2013. However, he reentered the U.S. illegally several times, leading to further removals in 2018 and 2021.
Most recently, he was convicted by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas in November 2022 for illegal reentry and sentenced to 30 months in federal prison. Following his sentence, he was again placed under removal proceedings by ERO New York City.
